âWhy do I always find you leaning over a dead body?â Zach Braun grumped as he prowled into the room.
Xandie straightened. âIt's a gift. And technically, itâs inclining, not leaning. Velma Mysticâs body proves my aunt wasn't involved.â
The police chief crossed his arms and scowled at Xandie. âHow does this poor womanâs death prove anything? There's a killer in Point Muse, and a second body confirms the first death was definitely murder and not an accident.â
Xandie gritted her teeth. Could this man annoy her anymore? âAmelia had an emergency call last night and was occupied for hours. She has witnesses. My aunt couldn't have been the killer.â
âThis time. Amelia might have an accomplice.â
Snorting, she shook her head. âSince when do Harrows play well with others? This proves Ameliaâs innocence.â
âThat's not for you to decide. Weâll interview any witnesses and examine the body before determining if this clears your aunt.â
âYou know Amelia. Sheâs not capable of this.â
âOf course he does. But he just needs to follow protocol.â Aggie strode in and handed Zach a large coffee from Lila's bakery, Heart's Delight. âXandie is right about one thing. Your cousin, Sasha, was also called into the surgery last night around nine. She stayed with Amelia until around two am when she dropped her back at Harrow House. I took a statement a little while ago.â
Chief Braun slouched a little and dropped his arms. âFine, but we still need to interview your aunt, Xandie. If you see her, please ask her to come in for a talk.â Zach scowled. âNow, please leave my crime scene alone and deal with that evil pug of Elspethâs.â
As much leeway from Zachy âbearâ Braun as she was likely to get. Xandie straightened and wiped a hand on her jeans. She needed to find Colin anyway. Who knew what Elspeth and Winifred had planned for today? And she needed to make sure Hannah was okay after her weird fox attack. The library might even have some information for her. Plus, she needed to find that missing diary. âWell, I guess I'll leave this murder in your capable hands. Aggie.â Ignoring Zach, Xandie air kissed Aggie goodbye. As she moved away, Zach grumped to his mother about how no one respected his title.
Xandie snickered. When one had a mother as capable and hard-working as Agatha Braun, it must be hard to measure up.
The first person she ran into was her cousin, Lila.
âXandie, thank God. We heard you found another body.â Lila grabbed Xandie and spun her around in a tight hug. âSee, I told you all we needed was another body to prove mom's innocence.â
âOnly if the evidence works in Aunt Amelia's favor. Aggieâs on the Harrowsâ side and that's half the battle.â Xandie glanced around, but chaos and mayhem were currently on the down low. No Colin or Elspeth hanging around could be bad or good.
âCalm, Meyers. The agility stage is still on, but later in the afternoon. Between the vomiting yesterday and the murder today, they want to get the show done before anyone else dies.
